World Literacy Day is September 8th this year; how are you participating in this appreciation day this September? According to nationaltoday.com, “The day is observed to remind the international community of the importance of literacy for individuals, communities, and societies, as well as the necessity for increased efforts toward a more literate society, as per the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).” Keep reading to get four ideas on how to participate in World Literacy Day this September!
Four Ways to Participate in World Literacy Day:
Host a Book Drive:
Organize a book collection at your workplace. Encourage employees, customers, and other businesses to donate books, which can be given to local schools, libraries, or literacy programs. Promote the event through your business’s marketing channels to maximize participation.
Partner with Local Schools or Literacy Programs:
Collaborate with schools or nonprofit organizations focused on literacy. Offer your business as a venue for literacy events or workshops. Alternatively, your team could volunteer at these organizations, helping with tutoring sessions or reading to children.
Fundraise for Literacy:
Launch a fundraising campaign in which a portion of your business’s sales for a day or a specific period is donated to a literacy charity. This will not only raise funds but also raise awareness about literacy challenges within your community.
Educational Workshops or Events:
Host workshops or talks emphasizing literacy and education’s importance. These could be aimed at educating your employees or the public and feature speakers from local educational institutions or literacy organizations.
By participating in World Literacy Day, your business can significantly improve literacy rates and demonstrate your commitment to community development.
