Welcome Mayor Matt Burke to the Garfield Heights Chapter Business Leadership Council!

We welcome Mayor Matt Burke, Garfield Heights,  as our newest Business Leadership Council member!

Before becoming mayor, Matt Burke spent over three decades in the floor covering industry, representing top manufacturers like Armstrong, Mannington, Congoleum, Shaw, and Mohawk. He began his career in high school and built long-standing relationships across the home improvement sector. In 2013, he was elected to Garfield Heights City Council, serving two terms before becoming Council President. These roles gave him deep insight into the city’s business landscape and community needs.

Since becoming Mayor of Garfield Heights in 2021, Matt Burke has focused heavily on economic development and infrastructure. He led the transformation of the long-abandoned City View Shopping Center into Highland Park, an active industrial hub now home to companies like MPac, MTech, Innoplast, Medthreads, and EMX Industries. This redevelopment was made possible through a partnership with Industrial Commercial Properties (ICP).

Mayor Burke has also worked to attract and support new businesses by modernizing the City’s zoning code to allow for mixed-use development. He backed a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Study to encourage business growth along Turney Road. His administration works closely with the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission and maintains active engagement with regional partners like the First Suburbs Consortium and the Cuyahoga County Mayors and Managers Association.
